UK Letter Home February 2002

Greetings All

I guess it's been quite a while since we've sent out one of our letters. Probably a couple of months or so. And what a few months it's been. Over Christmas and New Year, we had the great opportunity to visit Cyprus and Egypt. We had two weeks, and we were practically on the go every day. The only days we weren't doing something was Christmas, Boxing Day and New Years. And, even then we were having a grand feast at the hotel. Our hotel was on a little peninsula overlooking the Mediterranean Ocean. We saw beautiful 2000+ year old mosaics, ran through some ruins, did a little scuba, climbed up Mt. Olympus (ok, in a bus), went to several monasteries, and villages.

We were fortunate to have a day trip to Cairo. And what a day. This sounds like one of those travel brochures that you never believe, but, we were on the go from 5:00 to past midnight. We visited the amazing museum for about 3 hrs. You could loose yourself in the mummy section for a day, or the King Tut wing, or the burial exhibit, or the chariot display or ... Well, you get the picture. You could have spent a week 24/7 there, and still not seen everything. After that, we were whisked away to the Marriott for a 5* lunch. The hotel overlooked the pyramids. Quite a fantastic setting. We spent about another 5 gobsmacking hours around the pyramids and sphinx. That was just the dogs bollocks. After that, we had the experience of Cairo traffic. It was purely mingin. In the 3 hours that we were in the bus, we saw 4 working traffic lights. Everyone just drives where they want, and if they can squeeze their bangers between the curb and a bus. After our bus ride, we were treated to supper on the Nile in a floating restaurant. So, not only were we in denial, but we were on da Nile. OK, bad joke, but it's late, and I couldn't think of anything better.

Microsoft Communities (where we had our pics) were nice enough to delete all of our existing pictures. I am looking for another place to put my pictures, so hopefully by the middle of next month, we should have a bunch up. We have almost 200 pictures, so we'll keep you posted. If you can recommend where we can put our photo's, let me know ASAP.
