Zante Greece May 2003 - Part III

Greece - Zante Town - We had a day where we just wondered around the town of Zante. You've probably seen pictures of Greece displaying their white houses with the blue background of the sky and Med, but on the island of Zante, we didn't see anything like that. This island seemed more like places in Spain that we've been to. To get to Zante from our hotel, we just jumped on the local city bus. Since the island wasn't that big, there really wasn't very many organized touristy things, other, than the Discos, or trips to the mainland.

After being dropped off by the bus, we decided to first look around the city. Looking high in the hills, there was a fort guarding the city. Actually, on second thought, if anyone were to invade, the poor city people would be the first line of defence, and then the invaders would then have to climb the hill, and then atack the fort. Those fort people were pretty smart!

Here, we're entering a little town square. The entire city was very calm, and relaxed.

From the square, you can see the tower and fort in the distance. You would often see the waiters trying to draw you into their restaurant. Sometimes it would be a simple gesture, and other times they would almost pull you to a table.

The streets aren't very wide, which could it make it quite hard when someone decides to double park. Fortunately, we were on foot, so we avoided all that traffic!

Hiding between the building, was this beautiful old bell tower.

This is the same picture from above, just showing the style of the building.

Wouldn't you like to live there? Nice balcony, close the the restaurnts, fort protecting you, and just a 2 minute walk to the beach. Tempting...

Here, we're looking back at the sea.

After having lunch at one of the fine establishments, we wondered along the waterfront. Here is the tower and church.

And a wideishangle of along the waterfront.

Looking across the bay up and across to the fort.

A wideangle shot looking across the bay, with the church just to our left. If you look to the far right, you can see the boat that we took to the shipwreck.

These fishermen were just getting setup and organized to sell their wares. Us being tourists, didn't want to stare (as they were just doing their job) so took some quick snaps, and let them have their peace.

Here is Kim wearing the latest in Zantewear. Think she would look good living in this town? I think so!

And of course, if you're going to live here, you also need the local mode of transportation. This one would be ideal for getting away from those tough days at the beach.

A wideangle shot looking back at the hills, church, and city beyond.

Wouldn't you just love to stay at that hotel, even for just one night? Ok, it looks like a normal hotel, but look at the neighbourhood.

We wondered over to the beach, and although there's no fish, the sea did look quite inviting.

Looking out on the sea, we saw this weird boat.

It actually looks like part of it is under water. Weird.

Using the bionaculars infront of the camera (hey, it works), we can actually see that it is a sub. One thing that I never think about on holiday, is the military, but, of course just because we're on holiday, doesn't mean that other people are on holiday.

I think there's a problem with the sub. The captain has ordered everyone onto the front, so that the back will become level with the front. You can make out a rubber dingy. I'm wondering if the captain has ordered his crew to get ozzo and goats cheese!

Greece - Zante - Laganas - Final Day - Our flight leaving Zante left at 2.00am, and checkout time was noon. So, we decided to find another hotel for the night. At least that way we could store our clothes, and have a place for a cat nap. Plus, I had to work the next day, so if I could have a little nap at the hotel, I wouldn't be a total wreck for the next day. The first picture is looking out towards the ocean. You can then see the nightclub island and then behind it, Turtle Island.

And this is looking 180 degrees up the other way.

And, I know that you've seen the moon before, but have you ever seen a Greek moon??? Hope you've enjoyed the pics. Have a good night.
